The draw for the women’s draw for the US Open 2022, carried out on Thursday August 25 after the men’s draw, placed the defending champion, Emma Raducanu (11th in the WTA ranking), against the French Alizé Cornet (37th). World number 1 Iga Swiatek found herself in the same part of the table as Jelena Ostapenko, Garbine Muguruza, Jessica Pegula and Sofia Kenin.

Crowned with her title in Cincinnati, the French Caroline Garcia is also expected at Flushing Meadows. The seeded No. 17 will start her tournament with a clash against a player from the qualifications. On the other hand, she could cross paths with the Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia (n°15 WTA) from the third round then the Greek Maria Sakkari (n°3) in the eighth.

Harmony Tan will also challenge a former defending champion (2019), the Canadian Bianca Andreescu (50th). For Oceane Dodin (99th), the draw is statement: the French will face Leylah Fernandez (n°14), finalist last season. Diane Parry inherited Chinese Xiyu Wang (75th).

The six-time US Open champion, Serena Williams, who could put away her racket at the end of the US Open, will meet in the first round the Montenegrin Danka Kovinic, 80th in the world. The rest of her career seems strewn with pitfalls: the American could find Estonian Anett Kontaveit (n°2 WTA) in the second round in a part of the table which also includes Ons Jabeur (n°5) and Daria Kasatkina ( #10).

Note that three French women are still engaged in qualifying. Léolia Jeanjean (149th), Clara Burel (132nd) and Chloé Paquet (110th) hope to join the big picture.
