Utawarerumono fête ses 20 ans avec Monochrome Moebius: Toki no Taika

Announced as part of a long anniversary show controlled by Aquaplus, Monochrome Moebius: Toki no Taika is written by Suga Munemitsu, already a screenwriter at the time of the very first Utawarerumono in 2002 and composed by Shimokawa Naoya, also used to the franchise. Aquaplus introduced the game with a cutscene, intro, and trailer that offered a bit of gameplay. The publisher, however, has not revealed the platforms on which will be released Monochrome Moebius: Toki no Taika, but given the history of the franchise, we can argue in favor of the PS5 and PS4 to begin with.

Depending on the clues available, this title would fall somewhere between the first two chapters of the story (Prelude to the Fallen and Mask of Deception). We find characters like Oshtor, Mikazuki and Munechika in younger but also Shunya, a new girl with silver hair accompanied by a kind of stuffed rabbit renamed here Haku and whose voice corresponds to that of the eponymous protagonist. And it is indeed Shunya that we can see walking in the forest without however engaging in combat, which does not allow to say if the game will adopt turn-based or real-time action, but the page tactical visual novel seems to have been shot.

For those who live the history of Utawarerumono without a controller in hand, Aquaplus has also confirmed that Mask of Truth, the last episode of the trilogy, will finally be adapted into an animated series with a release scheduled for July 2022. Remember that the animated series is also known here under the name “The Song of Dreams” for questions of ease of pronunciation. The trailer is available here.
