Vaccine: when will the 3rd dose be available to all adults?

People over 50 can already make an appointment for a booster dose, in anticipation of December 2021, when they will be eligible. What will happen to all people over 18?

If you are not at increased risk of severe forms, or are not 65 years of age or older, when will you be able to access the third dose of the coronavirus vaccine, also called a booster dose?

And more than 70% of the French population has received the required doses of covid vaccine, it is now necessary for the most fragile people to adopt the booster dose – usually it is a third dose. At present, the people concerned are residents of nursing homes and USLDs, people with comorbidities and immunosuppressed, as well as all people over 65 years of age.

The possibility of a fifth epidemic wave is felt in Europe this autumn 2021. Against the upsurge in contamination in Europe, certain barrier gestures remain essential, in particular the ventilation of closed places and the wearing of a mask. But the issue also remains that of vaccination.

The 3rd dose for those over 50 from December

You are between 50 and 64 years old

The next expansion of the recall campaign is already formalized. Government spokesman Gabriel Attal confirmed this on France Inter, this November 15, 2021.

From the beginning of December, 50-64 year olds will be able to access the booster dose of the covid vaccine. It is already possible, from this mid-November, to make an appointment on Doctolib to schedule the vaccination booster appointment. Be careful, however: the time between the last dose injected and the booster dose is 6 months.

You are under 50

During the TF1 newscast, November 10, 2021, Minister of Health Olivier Véran recalled that at present, people under 50 do not have access to this booster dose, except in cases of comorbidity.

This rule is very likely to last only for a while. For the initial doses, France had already proceeded in stages according to ages and frailties. In addition, the United Kingdom, on November 15, extended the booster dose people over 40. So it is surely only a matter of time before ever wider audiences have access to the recall.

And for all adults?

At the end of November 2021, the two scientific bodies that provide advice to the executive – the Scientific Council and the Vaccine Strategy Orientation Council – gave a favorable opinion allowing the booster dose to be considered generalized to all adults.

The Scientific Council especially decided that the booster dose be extended as quickly as possible to over 50s, then invites ” to consider a vaccination booster for the entire adult population ».
