The Venezuelan government announced that they will denounce the president of Colombia, Iván Dúque, ante la International Criminal Court (ICC) for the crimes of “Extermination and persecution” against migrantsThis after the murder of two young Venezuelans in Tibú, Norte de Santander.
Delcy Rodríguez, Vice President of Venezuela, detailed that they will take “Iván Duque before the International Criminal Court (…) for the persecution of our migrants, for the murder of our migrants, which has become a systematic policy and massive against our compatriots ”.
The Vice President cited data from is ONG CODHES among those who highlighted that during in 2021, 360 Venezuelans have been murdered in Colombia and added that, according to figures from Legal Medicine of Colombia, since 2017 they have been murdered 2,061 Venezuelan migrants in the country.
Under these data, Rodríguez assured that there is an alarming situation which shows that there is not only one “Systematic persecution” against migrants, but Venezuelans are also being victims of “Aporophobic xenophobia.”
Rodríguez concluded by asking the United Nations offices for Human Rights, Refugees and Migration that they pronounce on these facts and initiate an investigation.
