USA.- US Border Patrol agents rescued a seven-year-old girl abandoned by a human smuggler, known as ‘coyotes’, who crossed the border wall between Mexico and the United States with her.
In a statement, the Customs and Border Protection agency details that the surveillance system showed a man in the El Centro sector, California, with the girl clinging to his back, as he held onto a rope on the border fence and went down to American soil. Later, he leaves her without water and without food.
“The agents decided to wait for the girl to be safe on the ground before approaching. This decision was made as a precaution, believing that the trafficker could panic and drop the girl, which due to the height of the wall could end in serious injury or death, “says the text.
Agents found the girl, a native of El Salvador, about 50 feet north of the US-Mexico border and two miles west of the Calexico port of entry.
According to the minor, who was transferred to the El Centro Sector Processing Center to be medically evaluated, the smuggler only told her to “walk north.”
“Merchandise for profit”
“No one, least of all a child of any age or race, should be exposed to the multitude of dangers that exist when crossing illegally into this country,” said Border Patrol Chief Gregory K. Bovino.
He also added that “smugglers will always view children as a commodity for profit, without regard for the safety and well-being of any individual except their own.”
In a video on social networks, the agent recounted everything that happened and showed part of the recordings of the surveillance system.
