There is two good news for fans of the ZDF television police officer Walter Sittler. The audience favorite known from “The Commissioner and the Sea” remains with the audience as investigator Robert Anders.
Sittler gets a new crime series in the second. And you don’t even have to get used to the title: The new format is called “Der Kommissar und der See” and takes place on Lake Constance. The Swedish island of Gotland had previously been the scene of the murders.
What is it about? The retired Commissioner Anders, played by the 68-year-old Sittler, has returned from Gotland to his old home on Lake Constance and is the focus of murder investigations. According to the ZDF announcement, the pilot episode “Liebeswahn” is currently being produced in Lindau, Hamburg and the surrounding area in cooperation with ORF. The second film in the series is expected to be shot in autumn 2022.
Sittler is in front of the camera with Nurit Hirschfeld (“Free Land”), Dominik Maringer (“Tatort – Die Faust”) and Tilman Pörzgen (“In all friendship – The young doctors”), among others. Director Felix Karolus (“At his side”) stages a script by Jürgen Werner. The shooting on Lake Constance lasts until November 8, 2021. According to ZDF information, the broadcast date has not yet been set.
“The Commissioner and the Sea” is discontinued
In June 2020, the ZDF announced that the high-rated series “The Commissioner and the Sea” should be discontinued shortly before the 30th episode. The 29th and final case has not yet been broadcast. “This step was not easy for us, but in order to be able to develop something new, we have to say goodbye to established series again and again,” said the head of ZDF’s main editorial office for TV films / series, Frank Zervos. “The Commissioner and the Sea” is a German-Swedish series. It is loosely based on the novels by Mari Jungstedt and has been broadcast since 2007.
