From our special correspondent in Turin (Italy). It was an expected victory. The winners of the Kalush Orchestra group, performers of the song Stefania, spoke after the grand final, during the traditional winners’ press conference. “We want to thank everyone who voted for Ukraine and contributed to its victorybegan Oleh Psiuk, the leader of the musical formation. Ukraine’s victory is very important for our country, especially this year. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, glory to Ukraine.“
A status of favorites for months
Oleh Psiuk made a point of stressing that their victory is due above all to the quality of their musical proposal. “It is true that our song was first among the bookmakers, but before the war, it was already in their Top 5. We were able to enjoy performing it all over Europe. Our song has a lot of sense for our compatriots. Ukrainian culture has been attacked, and we are here to prove that our culture is alive and well. And that his signature is very special.“
A return to Ukraine scheduled for tomorrow
“We haven’t had a chance to talk to President Zelensky yet.. He has very important things to do as you know“, he continues after being questioned on the subject. The group intends to return from Monday, May 16 in Ukraine. “Our special authorization (exiting Ukrainian territory, editor’s note) expires in two days. We don’t know what we’re going to do in the next few days, because it’s the first time we’ve won Eurovision. But like all Ukrainians, we are ready to fight as best we can until the end.Upon his return, the frontman intends to celebrate his birthday alongside his mother Stefania (who inspired their winning title) and his girlfriend, whom he could only reach by text message.
As for the question that everyone is asking, concerning the place which will host Eurovision 2023, Oleh Psiuk believes that the Contest must be held in Ukraine. “I am sure that next year Ukraine will be happy to welcome Europe, in a new Ukraine“, he concludes.
