"We Europeans". Norway: psychiatry without drugs?

Major reportage, guests and European news are featured in the magazine We Europeans” (Twitter), presented by Eléonore Gay and broadcast late Thursday evening on France 2 as well as Sunday at 10:35 a.m. on France 3. For this new issue of season 5, head to Norway, where a psychiatric hospital tries to treat its patients without psychotropic drugs. A unique experience in Europe…

In the world, one in eight people lives with a mental disorder: anxiety, depression, bipolarity, schizophrenia… If in the case of serious pathologies, drugs remain a recourse, are they the only track? In France, rare psychiatric institutions use a method that privileges the patient/therapist relationship in care.

A revolutionary method

In Tromsø, in the very north of Norway, a psychiatric unit is trying to treat the mentally ill without medication. Patients are empowered and benefit from substantial human support. A revolutionary method adopted by some Norwegians for five years. Can it be generalized? Is it applicable to all patients?
A report by Aline Hoorpah and Vincent Massot.
