The Minister of Health called on the French to remain “vigilant” in the face of the coronavirus epidemic, while the bill extending until summer 2022 the possible use of the health pass is presented this Wednesday in the Council of Ministers .
Invited on Franceinfo this Wednesday, the Minister of Health called on the French not to let their guard down in the face of the Covid-19 epidemic.
“We have not yet eradicated the virus and it would be wrong to believe that the epidemic would be last to us” warns the Minister of Health. “We must remain vigilant,” hammered Olivier Véran.
The evolution of the contaminations urges him to be vigilant, without being alarmed. “For two to three days, there has been a stagnation, even a small increase in the number of contaminations. Nothing catastrophic: we expected it because the activity has resumed in full, and it is colder”, a- he stressed.
“Today, there is no reason to think of a new wave” of contaminations comparable to previous ones which could occur in France, reassured the Minister of Health.
Oliver Véran is reassuring because “no” new variant has not been identified. It is indeed “the number one concern”, he recalled. It calls for the widest possible democratization of screening sequencing to quickly identify potential new dangerous variants and “knock them down locally”.
The minister recalled the government’s position, expressed in the bill presented this Wednesday in the Council of Ministers, extending until July 31, 2022 the possible recourse to the health pass.
“What we are asking Parliament is to leave us the possibility of triggering until the summer, if the health situation requires it, all or part of the braking measures”, he indicates.
When the incidence rate will be less than 50 in all departments for a few days, it will be possible to ease certain health restrictions, detailed the minister. Olivier Véran recalled that the Ile-de-France and Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur (PACA) regions have incidence rates higher than this figure for the moment. “It is out of the question to relax the efforts,” he insisted.
For its part, the scientific Council recommends ending the health pass between November 15 and the end of the year in order to continue the vaccination of the most vulnerable and prevent the onset of winter.
