This year, the summer went into extra time with temperatures worthy of August in November. And this second fortnight of the current month marks the return of the rain, but also of the winds.
Moreover, the National Office of Meteorology (ONM) issued a special weather report (BMS) level 2, with strong winds which will sometimes blow in gusts, this Monday and Tuesday, on several wilayas of the Center, the East and West of the country.
According to the same source, the wilayas of Tlemcen, Ain Témouchent, Oran, Mostaganem, Mascara, Relizane, Chlef, Tipaza, Algiers, Blida, Boumerdes and Tizi Ouzou are placed on level 2 vigilance from Monday at 3 p.m. to Tuesday at 9 a.m. in the morning.
The winds will blow from West to South-West with a force of 60 to 70 km/h which can sometimes reach or exceed 80 to 90 km/h in gusts, then turn North-West during the night.
In addition, Météo Algérie has also placed the wilayas of Bejaia, Jijel, Skikda, Annaba and El Tarf in orange vigilance from today, Monday at 9 p.m. to Tuesday at the same time.
The winds will blow, during the period of validity of this bulletin, on the Western sector with a force of 70/80 km/h sometimes reaching or exceeding 90/100 km/h in gusts, then turning West to North-West in the second part at night, underlines the ONM in its BMS.
Besides that, the ONM also has an alert for high waves, which could reach 10 meters in some parts of the country tomorrow and Wednesday.
Civil protection calls for vigilance
It is in this context of meteorological disturbances that the General Directorate of Civil Protection published a press release, in which it calls on citizens to be vigilant in order to avoid human losses.
The instructions of the DGPC:
- Reduce speed, and respect safety distances for drivers
- Avoid approaching streams and rivers, especially for children.
- Avoid driving on flooded roads
- Cut off the electricity meter in the event of flooding in homes
To conclude, the DGPC calls on citizens to contact its services via the toll-free number 10 21 or the emergency number 14, in the event of a dangerous situation, recalling that it is necessary to mention the nature of the danger and the precise address.
