Claus Theo Gärtner was Josef Matulla
Furrowed face, deep voice, leather jacket, never quite law-abiding and always short of cash – Matula was “A case for two”. Initially still a police sergeant, he resigned to avoid being convicted of evading criminal prosecution. dr Renz offers him a job as a detective.

Matula’s first employer was Doctor Dieter Renz, played by for 60 episodes Günther Strack (†). The Hessian lawyer lived alone since his divorce, was a talented cook and wine lover who spent his rare free time on the golf course.
Renz retired after becoming a victim of his plot and emigrated to Tuscany with a childhood sweetheart.

Already in Renz’s last episode, Dr. Rainer Franck (Rainer Hunold) makes his first appearance, first as his defense attorney, then he takes over Renz’ practice and detective Matula. Although both of them don’t have a good start – Franck pinches Matula’s girlfriend – they quickly become a good team and investigate together from episodes 61 to 149. Then Franck accepted a teaching position in Berlin.
Hunold is now playing a lawyer again: in the ZDF series “The Public Prosecutor” he embodies the title hero.

When he leaves, Franck hands over the office to Dr. John Voss (Matthew Herman). He works with Matula until episode 182, when the lawyer is shot by the killer Jochen Brenner. Actually, Brenner, who managed to escape from the court, was after Matula. He takes on a second attempt on Dr. Voss’ funeral, but Dr. Lessing forestalls him and shoots the murderer of his college friend with Matula’s gun.
Mathias Hermann has been in the “Endlich Freitag im Erste” series “Daheim in den Bergen” since 2018 as Dr. to see Kendrich.

From episode 183 to 300, Dr. Markus Lessing (Paul Frielinghaus) Matula’s partner. The former prosecutor takes over Voss’ office until he emigrate to South America to raise cattle.
After leaving “Ein Fall für Zwei”, Frielinghaus was seen in many TV formats, including “Alarm for Cobra 11”, “In All Friendship – The Young Doctors”, “The Usedom Crime” and “Letzte Spur Berlin”. “.
