The new 20 peso billpresented in September 2021 to commemorate the bicentennial of the Consummation of Independence, will stop circulating by 2025, as reported by the Bank of Mexico (Banxico).
The General Director of Issuance and Chief Cashier of Banxico, Alejandro Alegrand, indicated that the commemorative ticket will be replaced by a coin of the same denomination.
It is the first banknote that has a mixed design, horizontal on the front and vertical on the back. It is illustrated with the entry of the Triguarant Army to Mexico Cityon September 27, 1821, but on the reverse there is a design of a mangrove with the mexican Crocodile, the chocolate heron and the red mangrove of the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve.

WHY DOES IT DISAPPEAR?
Alegre mentioned in 2018 that the new 20-peso bill would possibly It would be the last to be manufactured under this name.since Banxico plans to only use 20 peso coins.
“The idea is to move forward in migrating to having fewer 20 bills and gradually replace them only with coins”said the General Director of Issuance and Chief Cashier of Banxico.

They are currently circulating 688 million 20-peso bills in blue with the image of Benito Juárez; while of the new banknotes with the Trigarante Army some 300 million pieces.
The new 20 peso bill received, in December 2021, recognition as one of the best designs of the “High Security Printing 2021” to the category “Best Commemorative Ticket” from Latin America.
