World champions! Three Peruvians achieve the podium of the World School of Chess. They are only 8, 15 and 16 years old

Champion Peru! Young talents from our country crowned the Blanquirroja at the top of the podium of the World School Championship Chess. East It was held in Panama, from June 10 to 19.

The tough competition had about 600 chess players, from 36 countries, among them powers of the chess world such as India, Mongolia, the United States, China, Cuba and Canada, Kazakhstan.

But Peru put up a fight on the chessboard and won gold medals in three categories, placing the girl as new figures in this ‘science sport’. Adamaris Mine Crusher (sub-9) and adolescents Azumi Bravo Mallco (under-15) and Henry Vasquez Vargas (under-17).

The achievement, considered historic, quickly spread on social networks.

She and Henry Vásquez are from Lima and students of the Saco Oliveros school, an educational institution that contributed the largest number of chess players to the Peruvian World Cup delegation.

“I feel very happy for the victory and grateful to my school for the support and the opportunity to enhance my chess skills”, said Henry Vasquezwho is 16 years old and is the new world champion in the under 17 category.

With a loan, a champion girl was able to travel

Cusco also left us at the top of the championship, with Adamaris Machaca, only 8 years old. She is now World School Chess Champion, in the sub-9 category.

We played nine rounds and all of them were strong, lasting between two and four and a half hours.. The hardest I had was against a girl from Mongolia”said the girl, specifying that she prepared herself by dedicating five hours a day to chess.

With pride, Juan Carlos Machaca, his father, pointed out that his family even had to take out a loan to pay for the tickets for the trip “and make the dream come true that has brought these results”.

If only they realized that if they invested more, if they supported clubs in all cities, if it was political will, we would be a world power indisputable. (…). Also silver and bronze

The Peruvian Chess Sports Federation congratulated the entire Peruvian delegation, which In addition to the three world champions, he placed two world runners-up on the podium.: Fiorella Contreras (Under 15, FIDE Master) and Xiomara Guzman (Sub 11).

Peru also obtained a valuable rating with Bronze medalls thanks to the talent of Fabian Reyes, Vincent Cardenas and Safrys Valenzuela, in categories of under 17, 13 and 7 years. (Isabella Medina)

*It is the official championship of the FIDE calendar. It gives international titles and world champions.

*It was played with Swiss System in 9 rounds. Players between 5 and 17 years of age participated by category.

*Peru was one of the countries that managed to add more wins in each one.

*Some of them achieved world team runner-up in Dubai 2021.
