World Children's Day on September 20 / The association brotZeit demands: Every child has the right to breakfast

The motto of World Children’s Day on September 20th is “Together for children’s rights”. And a very important right of a child is to have breakfast. The brotZeit association points this out.

According to studies, every fifth child in Germany comes to school hungry. And that has serious consequences: lack of concentration, aggressive behavior, bad grades.

brotZeit eV currently provides 14,000 elementary and special needs students throughout Germany with a free and balanced breakfast every day. Margarethe Schlemmer, CEO of brotZeit, says on the occasion of World Children’s Day: “It is high time that this problem is taken seriously and given the social attention it deserves due to its relevance. Every child has the right to breakfast.”

Hans-Jürgen Engler, CEO of brotZeit, also points out that the lack of food for children is often accompanied by a lack of human attention from the parents. At the brotZeit project schools, in addition to an invigorating breakfast for the needy children, there is support from the volunteer breakfast helpers, who have an open ear and time for their protégés.

The brotZeit association, founded by the actress Uschi Glas, is currently active with its breakfast project at 292 schools in 15 different funding regions throughout Germany. In the last school year, the association served 1.8 million breakfasts.
