World Cup 2022: TV ratings published – the result shows a clear fan trend

“Boycott Qatar” – Apparently many football fans actually took this call to heart. Already on the second matchday it became apparent that the games of this year’s World Cup were attracting significantly fewer spectators than the games of the previous World Cups.

Figures from AGF Videoforschung in cooperation with GfK show that none of the parties had more than five million TV viewers in Germany on Monday. Even the games of the strong teams from England and the Netherlands received comparatively little attention. The game with the most viewers on Monday was the game between Wales and the USA in the evening, which was watched by an average of 4.35 million people.
