The LR nomination candidate, if he agreed to abide by congressional rules, assured that he would not return to his party. He will therefore not be able to vote for himself on 4 December.
Xavier Bertrand, who finally announced Monday evening that he would participate in the Congress of Republicans, however, does not intend to return to his former political family. In operation seduction this Tuesday with the right-wing senators who will receive each week a candidate for the LR nomination, the president of the Hauts-de-France region indicated that he did not intend to take back his card from the party, BFMTV learned from parliamentary sources
Consequence: the former minister will not be able to vote for himself on December 4, when Republican activists will have to nominate their candidate for the 2022 presidential election.
“You don’t have to love me”
Asked about his departure from the right-wing party by LR parliamentarians, Xavier Bertrand justified this decision by the absence in 2017 of a clear voting instruction from LR in favor of Emmanuel Macron against Marine Le Pen.
“You do not have to love me”, declared Xavier Bertrand in front of the LR senators, while assuring that he was the “only solution to win the election” and recalling the importance of bringing together the right and the center.
