Xiaomi showcases several new products at its Discover Xiaomi 2022 event
On this happy day of music festival in France, Xiaomi had therefore invited a large part of the European press as well as influencers from all over to present some of its new “ALoT” products to us, supposed to transform our daily life into an experience. intelligent (they say so).
If during a free visit showroom, we could see a whole bunch of products intended to accompany us on a daily basis, from the bedside lamp to the robot vacuum cleaner, passing through smart speakers or oil-free fryers (like the star of the moment, the famous Mi Smart Air Fryer), Xiaomi has focused on 4 flagship products to come in the coming days or weeks, namely:
- Its brand new scooter the Xiaomi Electric Scooter 4 Pro
- Its new connected bracelet dedicated to sport Smart Band 7
- His series of TV A2
- the Xiaomi Book S 12.4″a 2-in-1 computer-tablet that we are going to tell you about here.
Xiaomi Book S: tablet or PC? Both my commander!
The star of this presentation, perhaps on a par with the Xiaomi Electric Scooter 4 Pro that we will present to you later, was therefore him (or her), the Xiaomi Book S 12.4”.
Xiaomi presents it as a laptop that can be converted into a tablet, others will consider it as a tablet that can be transformed into a computer… In the end, it doesn’t change much, and what matters is that we have here we are dealing with a real competitor for the Surface from Microsoft or the MateBook E from Huawei.
The key word to present this brand new computer at Xiaomi was “versatility” and that’s where we expect it. So not for AAA games, of course, but whether it’s to work, take away, watch, pass the time, have fun watching a series or chatting in video, Xiaomi promises us that all this will be within its reach.
To do this, the Xiaomi Book S is based on a ARM-like architecture (equivalent to what we have in our smartphones), which has the advantage of being energy efficient and perfectly optimized. It’s the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx Gen processor (2.84GHz) who will be responsible for propelling this Book S towards all its promises, supported by 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage.
13-hour battery life, 12.4-inch WQHD (2560 x 1600p) touchscreen @ 60Hzsupport for a smart stylus and an optional magnetic keyboard (149€ for the keyboard, 99€ for the stylus all the same), the Xiaomi Book S turns out to be a very nice surprise on paper, and cherry on the cake, it weighs only 720 grams (without the keyboard which weighs 317 grams).
Finally, as you may have noticed, it will run on Windows 11 in S mode, the version optimized and secure for tablets which only allows applications from the Microsoft Store to be installed. Unless you decide, at your own risk, to leave this restrictive mode for more freedom.
In short, full of promises that we can’t wait to check. And the price you tell me? As often with Xiaomi, we are very aggressive, it will be marketed at a full price of €699 from June 30, but it will benefit from an introductory offer at only €599 for a short period. To be continued…
