3-year-old girl dies after being run over; she was crossing the street with her mother

A three-year-old girl was killed and her two-year-old brother was injured when they were struck by a vehicle while crossing a street in Harlem with their mother, according to police reports.

The incident occurred around 8 p.m. on Thursday when the driver, who was driving a Nissan SUV, was trying to turn left onto Lenox Avenue exiting 135th Street. The mother and her children – the two injured and a 4-month-old baby – were crossing the intersection.

The 37-year-old mother and baby were not hit by the vehicle.

The driver stopped and helped transport the injured to Harlem Hospital, located across the street from where the accident occurred, according to the police report.

The girl later died in hospital. Her brother is in stable condition with head injuries.

So far the driver has not been charged with any offense and the investigation is ongoing.
