8 die in cargo truck accident in Nayarit

Mexico City.- A torton-type truck, which was loaded with flowers and with at least 30 people on board, fell into a ravine on the Guadalajara-Puerto Vallarta Highway, in Nayarit, which left at least eight dead.

It was reported that the accident occurred in the last minutes of yesterday, when the driver of the truck lost control in a curve at kilometer 52, collided with the containment barrier and finally fell into a ravine of approximately 20 meters.

Civil Protection of Compostela first found the bodies of six people, and then another two who remained under the heavy unit, which came from Puebla.

“Derived from the accident on the Jala-Compostela branch and at the end of carrying out the maneuvers to lift the damaged unit, two more bodies were located, adding a total of eight deaths, corresponding to three males, three females and two minors,” specified the municipal institution.

It was reported that the travelers, who had an accident on the Jala-Compostela section, had Puerto Vallarta as their final destination to sell flowers on May 10, the day Mother’s Day is celebrated.

Likewise, ten (10) people were injured, being treated and transferred by Municipal Civil Protection personnel, to the medical emergencies of the IMSS Bienestar de Compostela hospital.

It is worth mentioning that the torton came from the state of Puebla, bound for Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, which was transporting three tons of flowers and that at the moment of taking a curve they ended up overturning.

According to local reports, another 10 people were transferred to the IMSS Bienestar Hospital of the Municipality of Compostela, including three minors.

Another accident in Nayarit left 18 dead

Last April, a tourist truck that left Guadalajara for Guayabitos, Nayarit, also fell into a ravine and left 18 people dead.

The accident occurred on federal highway 200, kilometer 60, also at the height of the Municipality of Compostela.
