Advances in the detection of Alzheimer's disease

A new study shows that a blood test for Alzheimer’s can detect 90% of cases of dementia in the early stages.

By comparison, subject matter specialists had a 73 percent accuracy rate and primary care physicians 61 percent, both using standard methods.

Researchers believe the findings could lead to a blood test that could be used in a primary care office, much like tests such as cholesterol screening.

In the United States, nearly seven million people suffer from Alzheimer’s.

And here in the City, almost 430 THOUSAND people aged 65 or older live with this disease.
