Closing of polling stations begins in Venezuela

CARACAS.- Election day in Venezuela ends with the closing of polling stations scheduled for 6:00 PM, according to the regulations in force in the country, except in places where there are still voters waiting to exercise their right to vote.

Once the centre has closed, the counting of votes begins, opening the ballot boxes to count the ballots. At the same time, the number of votes cast by the machine is totalled; both results must match.

It is important to note that this process is open to the public, with electoral witnesses from all the political parties that participated.

However, the opposition has denounced that there are polling stations in which supporters of Nicolás Maduro’s regime have not allowed the entry of witnesses other than the government officials themselves.

Opposition leader María Corina Machado called for counting ballots one by one and for the closing of polling stations.
