Colombian Council on International Relations rejects electoral fraud in Venezuela

Governments must reject election results in Venezuela

BOGOTA.- He Colombian Council on International Relations (CORI) expressed his rejection of the electoral fraud in the recent Venezuelan presidential elections. According to the statement, the regime of Nicolás Maduro rejected the results of last July 28, which showed a clear advantage for the opposition candidate Edmundo González.

CORI highlighted the reports of the Carter Center and the Organization of American States (OAS)which confirmed the irregularities of the process and the lack of electoral guarantees. “We recognize the value of the recent reports and statements from the Carter Center and the OAS, which independently corroborate the irregularities of this process and the lack of guarantees and standards of electoral integrity at each of its stages,” CORI said.

The Council condemned the violence and political intimidation promoted by the Maduro regime, demanding its immediate cessation. “We condemn the violence and strongly call for an end to the political intimidation promoted by the regime in recent days, as well as to the violation of human rights and the persecution of opposition leaders,” the organization said.

CORI stressed the importance of transparency and integrity in the process to avoid a new wave of forced migration of Venezuelans and to prevent geopolitical tensions in Latin America. “The transparency and integrity of this process is vital to avoid a new wave of migratory flows of Venezuelans who have been forced to leave their country,” the Council emphasized.

Finally, CORI called on the Maduro regime to acknowledge its defeat and respect the popular will, allowing for a peaceful transition to democracy. “Nicolás Maduro and his government must acknowledge their defeat and the broad popular will for change, and allow for a peaceful transition to democracy under strict compliance with domestic norms and the observance of the international community,” CORI concluded.

This statement reinforces the position of various international organizations that advocate a peaceful and democratic solution to the crisis in Venezuela, underlining the need for the region to become a space of democracy, peace and development.
