Cooker: Schedule for food price calculator still open

According to ÖVP Economics Minister Martin Kocher, the introduction of a food price calculator for staple foods in supermarkets and online shops should be implemented “as quickly as possible”.

However, there is no concrete timetable yet, said the minister during an online background discussion today. How exactly a food price transparency database should be designed is controversial among competition experts.

In addition to the threatened loss of revenue from energy companies and a food transparency report, Chancellor Karl Nehammer (ÖVP) and Vice-Chancellor Werner Kogler (Greens) also announced on Wednesday after the Council of Ministers that further transparency measures to strengthen competition would be developed.

On Friday, Kocher met representatives of the Federal Competition Authority (BWB) and a group of competition economists to talk, among other things, about more transparency in the food sector.
