Counter-Strike: an AK-47 skin sold for $400,000, an all-time high

It’s a historic video game record: CS:GO skin trader zipeL sold an AK-47 and a Karambit Blue Gem to fellow player Luksusbums for over $500,000. The sale took place on April 16, with the AK-47 worth $400,000.

The recent announcement of Counter-Strike 2 will have generated a lot of excitement in the community, especially knowing that it will be a free update of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. All CS:GO weapon skins will also be transferred to the new gamewhich will have led to… A surge in prices on the skins market.

Weapon skins have always been an interesting by-product of CS:GO’s success, with rare skins selling for high sums. But the announcement of Counter-Strike 2 will have seen relatively mundane skins increase significantly in value.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive skin market skyrockets with $400,000 AK-47 sale

The most striking recent example is l’AK-47 StatTrak Tier 1 Case Hardened with un motif Blue Gem, which became the most expensive individual weapon in CS:GO and possibly in video game history. This skin is in minimal wear, which means it is in excellent condition, with a 661 Blue Gem pattern, as blue as possible. It features four Katowice 2014 Titan Holo stickers, each valued at around $60,000.

CS:GO skins trader zipeL brokered the sale for his business associate Luksusbums, which included the AK-47 and a mint version of the Blue Gem Karambit. zipeL asserts that the total value of the trade was over $500,000 (€456,000)including $400,000 (€365,000) for the AK-47 skin, and that it ended on April 16.

Note that the most sought after and valuable skin in the CS:GO skin market remains the Blue Gem Karambit knife, which has was offered last year for $1.5 million, but the owner refused. CS:GO skins have become a speculator’s market, with trades in the hundreds of thousands of dollars—even, millions of dollars.
