Expedited reopening of I-95 in Philadelphia is scheduled for Friday

Expedited reopening of I-95 in Philadelphia is scheduled for Friday

The temporary section of I-95 is scheduled to open at noon Friday, a PennDOT official confirmed.

All this after the six lanes, three to the north and three to the south, of the busy road were asphalted, painted, repaved and dried with a powerful Nascar fan on Thursday.

The urgency of the project comes as a promise from Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro to make I-95 passable two weeks after the collapse of the northern section after the deadly explosion of a fuel truck on June 12. As a result of the emergency, the south side had to be demolished as well, a process that took only days after the work for the project was carried out 24/7.

This is what you should expect:

  • The temporary lanes of I-94 will have a speed reduction of 45 miles per hour.
  • There will be at least one mile of transition before the provisional stretch in both directions.
  • So far it is unknown when the reconstruction work of the bridge in the outer lanes will begin.
  • It is also unclear how much time or money the rebuild will cost.
