FBI to interview Trump about Pennsylvania assassination attempt

WASHINGTON — Former President Donald Trump has agreed to be interviewed by the FBI as part of the investigation into the attempted assassination of him in Pennsylvania earlier this month, an official said Monday.

The interview is part of FBI protocol for speaking with victims of federal crimes during the course of its investigations. The agency said Friday that Trump was struck by a bullet or a fragment during the July 13 assassination attempt at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

“We want to get your perspective on what you observed,” Kevin Rojek, the special agent in charge of the FBI’s Pittsburgh field office, said Monday.

Rojek also revealed new details about the attacker, 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, including internet searches that showed his interest in mass shootings, power plants, improvised explosives and the attempted assassination of Slovakia’s prime minister earlier this year.
