After a gas alarm in a house in Essen-Altendorf, two residents were hospitalized on Tuesday evening with suspected carbon monoxide poisoning. The alarmed rescue service treated a total of four people.
As fire brigade spokesman Christoph Riss reported on Wednesday morning, a CO detector from the rescue service, which had been ordered to the address on Hamborner Straße in another matter, had been triggered.
The municipal utility shut off the gas supply
Subsequent measurements by the fire brigade actually showed increased values. The municipal utility therefore turned off the gas supply to the heating system.
The exact cause of the carbon monoxide concentration is unclear. Stadtwerke employees and the responsible chimney sweep will investigate on Wednesday, according to Riß.
Two fire engines from the fire brigade, two ambulances, an emergency doctor and an operations manager were on site on Tuesday evening.
