Florida under alert for possible tropical depression in the Caribbean

MIAMI.– Florida is under alert for the possible formation of a tropical depression in the Caribbean, according to the most recent report from the National Hurricane Center (NHC).

According to the 8:00 a.m. Thursday report, a tropical wave moving through the region is causing heavy rain and thunderstorms to Hispaniola, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands.

The system, which is moving slowly west-northwestward, could intensify and become a tropical depression late week or early next week.

The NHC warned that environmental conditions could favor the development of the atmospheric phenomenon once it crosses the Antilles.

Measurement models show that the formation of a tropical depression is most likely over the Gulf of Mexico or near the Florida Peninsula, which has put state authorities on alert.

Florida residents are advised to stay informed about the latest weather updates and be prepared for any events that may occur.

Areas affected by the tropical wave could experience heavy rains and strong winds.

The NHC estimates a 20% chance of formation during the next 48 hours and a 60% chance during the next seven days. Additional updates will be issued as more details about the system become known.
