A Russian citizen who was sentenced to five years in prison in the district court has his sentence reduced to four years, when the court of appeal states that at the beginning of the riot he acted against the crowd and tried to calm them down, even if he was later seen participating in violence.
A Latvian citizen also had his sentence reduced. He was sentenced to six years in prison as the district court held that he had a more driving role than other participants. Among other things, he was armed with a club and was seen on film punching holes in the tires of police vehicles. The Court of Appeal ruled that the length of the sentence should be reduced by six months.
The two other men have their prison terms set at five and six and a half years, respectively. Both claimed that they did not participate in the riot, but the Court of Appeal believes that the evidence shows the opposite.
