French MPs call for Wagner to be added to EU list of terrorist groups

The French National Assembly adopted this Tuesday, May 9 unanimously a resolution asking to register the Russian paramilitary group Wagner, accused of abuses in Ukraine and Africa, on the list of the European Union of terrorist organizations.

“The battle of Bakhmout is no longer anything but a symbol, everyone thinks only of the Ukrainian counter-offensive”

The text, without binding value, invites the French government “to mobilize diplomatically” so that the EU accedes to this request, which should make it possible to sanction more effectively the members of Wagner and their supporters, in particular financially.

The sequel after the ad

“While from a legal point of view the inclusion of the Wagner group on the list of terrorist entities of the European Union (…) would have no direct additional effect, we must not underestimate the symbolic importance of such a designation “had indicated at the podium, before the vote, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Catherine Colonna.
