Heat alert in South Florida for another day

Prolonged heat wave threatens more than 130 million Americans

MIAMI.- The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued the fourth consecutive heat warning that will affect various areas of South Florida this Friday, July 19, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

According to meteorologists, high temperatures will mainly affect Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade counties, where heat index values ​​(wind chill values) between 105 and 110 degrees Fahrenheit are expected.

Additionally, a special alert has been issued for the Florida Keys, including Key Largo, Marathon and Key West, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., where wind chill values ​​of 110 degrees Fahrenheit are expected.

Meteorologists warn that high temperatures and high humidity can lead to heat-related illnesses, so they recommend that residents stay hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids, stay in cool environments, preferably in air-conditioned rooms, avoid prolonged exposure to the sun and be aware of the most vulnerable, especially children and the elderly.

Those who work outdoors are advised to take frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas and follow recommendations from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

If someone shows symptoms of heat stroke, move them to a cool, shaded place and call 911 immediately.
