IDEA Group rejects violence and stands in solidarity with Donald Trump

MIAMI. – Former presidents and members of Democratic Initiative of Spain and the Americas (IDEA Group) strongly reject the attack on the Republican presidential candidate of the United States, Donald Trumpduring a rally in Butler, Pennsylvaniaon July 13th.

Through the social network X, the former presidents expressed their repudiation of the acts of violence that they consider a threat to democracy. They showed their absolute solidarity with former President Trump.

Former Colombian President, Alvaro Uribe Velezexpressed his solidarity with Trump by stating that “violence kills candidates and ultimately mortally wounds democracy.”

Investigate and bring justice

On the other hand, the former president of Colombia, Ivan Dukejoined the public statement made by IDEA.

In a statement, they condemned the attack against former President Trump and urged the authorities to investigate and bring those responsible to justice. They also wished a speedy recovery to the former US president, who is campaigning and seeking to return to the White House in the elections scheduled for December 5.

The statement said that “these violent acts constitute a serious attempt to undermine the democratic principles and stability of the United States.”

The former president of Ecuador, Lucio Gutierrezalso expressed his solidarity with President Donald Trump, who was “cowardly attacked in a vile assassination attempt.”

Gutierrez said that these actions represent how “the forces of evil” in Ecuadorthe United States and around the world are seeking to destroy democracy. He stressed the importance of “honest and patriotic citizens uniting against political corruption, injustice and lack of democracy.”

Former Bolivian President Jorge Tuto Quirogavehemently rejected the assassination attempt against Trump. He stressed that in a democracy differences must be resolved through debate and voting, never through “murderous” violence against a presidential candidate.

Former Mexican President Felipe Calderón celebrated that the former US president is well and described the attack he suffered as very serious. “It is an act ofserious and absolutely reprehensible.” He believes that it is necessary to put an end to the “political polarization which leads inexorably to violence.”

Finally, the former president of Panama, Ricardo Martinelliregretted the attack, which raises doubts and speculation.

Although the attempt failed, Martinelli pointed to the presence of malicious forces seeking to undermine democracy by interfering in the choice of the sovereign people.

He said that these radical forces hide under the guise of institutionality and they control the means of production and dissemination, as well as occupy high public positions or have close relatives in positions of power.

Martinelli predicts that this attack will strengthen Trump’s position in the electionswhile in his country victimization will have a similar effect on future votes. However, he stresses that in the end, the “malicious forces” will lose both in USA as in other places, since destiny is determined by popular vote and divine will.
