Captain Marvin Plattenhardt will leave Hertha BSC after this season. Sports director Fredi Bobic confirmed to the media today: “The contract expires in the summer, that has been decided and clearly discussed with the player and his advisors.”
Plattenhardt switched from 1. FC Nürnberg to Berlin for the 2014/15 season and has played a total of 221 games for the old lady so far. He is also seeded in the current season, the 30-year-old left-back has been on the field in 14 competitive games. The decision to leave Hertha should have matured over the course of the first half of the season.
The separation is not related to the fact that Plattenhardt cannot take part in the current training camp in the USA due to his vaccination status. Bobic on this: “It’s his decision, we discussed it with him. You can’t force a player to get vaccinated. It was important to us that he could train – he does that in Berlin with the U23s.”
