Krejcikova Defeats Paolini and Rises with Wimbledon Crown

Barbora Krejcikova gana Wimbledon and wins his second title Grand Slam when overtaking Jasmine Paolini.

Krejcikova outscored Jasmine Paolini 6-2, 2-6, 6-4.

The 28-year-old Czech added another trophy to the one she won at the French Open in 2021.

When she won in Paris she was unseeded and was now 31st of 32 seeds at the All England Club after illness and a back injury this season limited her to 7-9 entering the tournament.

Krejcikova is the eighth woman to finish Wimbledon as champion in the last eight editions. Last year’s winner is also Czech: Marketa Vondrousava, who lost in the first round at this edition.

Seventh seed Paolini was also a finalist at last month’s French Open and is the first woman since Serena Williams in 2016 to reach the final at Roland Garros and Wimbledon in the same season.

Playing calmly and efficiently — and seemingly effortless — Krejcikova took 10 of her first 11 points and quickly took a 5-1 lead.

Even though the crowd, probably because they wanted a more competitive duel, supported Paolini more, shouting “Forza!” as they usually do or “Calma!”, Krejcikova never gave up.

He really didn’t need anything other than his Plan A in the first set on Centre Court, which included actors Tom Cruise, Kate Beckinsdale and Hugh Jackman among the attendees.

After a first set stacked against her, Paolini headed to the locker room and emerged a different player, one no longer burdened by the fatigue of Wimbledon’s longest-ever two-hour, 51-minute semifinal win over Donna Vekic on Thursday.

Paolini had come back from losing the first set and so she knew how to do it. She started the second against Krejcikova in style to go up 3-0.

Once the game was tied, Krejcikova was now the one to leave the court to recalibrate after her shots began to go awry in the second set — after just four unforced errors in the first, she committed 14 in the second — and returned to her clean, accurate shots to win.
