Long Island City hosts its own Olympics

Long Island City hosts its own Olympics

“Bringing everyone together and competing in a healthy way and doing something healthy for everyone, while having fun at the same time,” explains Eric Herrera, Manager of Soccerroof, LIC.

Indoor soccer training company Soccerroof is one of 18 businesses participating in Summer of Sport, a sports training campaign celebrating the Olympics in the Long Island City community.

Laura Rothrock, president of the Long Island Partnership, organizers of the event, says, “We are the fastest growing neighborhood in the city and we want our people to not only watch the Olympics at home but to get outside and exercise as a family.”

In order to participate in the three weeks of free activities and training, you must obtain a digital passport.

“A chance to play for free pick up soccer and as soon as they come with the Olympic Games passport from LIC Partnerships we will also provide them giveawayssome gifts and things like that, just to come and participate and play soccer for a while,” says Herrera.

The Long Island City community will be able to enjoy the Summer of Sports Olympics until August 18.

“A big invitation to all our Latinos to come and participate in our Olympic Games, where we have sports for everyone,” the manager said.
