Macri bets on the May Pact as a turning point for Argentina

This July 9th, we commemorate the signing of the Declaration of Independence of Argentina and was signed May Pactto which Mauricio Macri, former president of that country, is holding out hope that it will mark the beginning of the end of the “eternal decadence, which has generated corruption and impoverishment in the nation.”

Macri, current leader of the PRO, expressed his opinion on his X account, after participating in the signing of the May Pact organized by the government of Javier Milei, which was also signed by 18 governors of different political leanings.

This pact aims to change the course of the country. It highlights commitments such as a “non-negotiable” fiscal balance, a reduction in public spending to historic levels of around 25% of the total. Gross Domestic Product and an initial, primary, secondary, useful and modern education, among other points.

For his part, Macri expressed his confidence in the authorities who signed this agreement, assuring that they did so sincerely, with a deep conviction for change. “If this is the case, we can look forward and have faith that democracy and freedom will lead us to our destiny,” he said.

President Milei and representatives of the United Provinces of the South they met in Saint Michael of Tucumana historic place where the Argentine Act of Independence was signed in 1816, to declare and ratify its commitment to the Pact of May and its 10 established clauses, which aim to rebuild the foundations of Argentina and guide the people towards development and prosperity.

The 10 points that make up the minutes

  1. The inviolability of private property.
  2. The non-negotiable fiscal balance.
  3. Reducing public spending to historic levels, around 25% of the Gross Domestic Product.
  4. A useful and modern initial, primary and secondary education, with full literacy and no school dropouts.
  5. A tax reform that reduces the tax burden, simplifies the lives of Argentines and promotes trade.
  6. The re-discussion of federal tax sharing to end and put an end to the current extortionate model suffered by the provinces.
  7. The commitment of the Argentine provinces to advance the exploitation of the country’s natural resources.
  8. A modern labor reform that promotes formal work.
  9. A pension reform that makes the system sustainable and respects those who contributed.
  10. Opening up to international trade, so that Argentina can once again become a protagonist in the global market.

May Council

The signed agreement establishes the creation of a specific body to meet the stated objectives. “The document is created to commit to forming a May Council, to address the important, urgent and transcendental issue of the dependence of the Homeland,” the document states.

This body will be made up of a president of the May Council, a representative of the National Executive Branch, one from each Chamber of Deputies and Senators, a representative of the provinces, trade union entities and the business sector.

The minutes end with a formal closing, accompanied by one of Javier Milei’s traditional party slogans that became popular during his electoral campaign: “May God enlighten all Argentines and grant us the wisdom and strength necessary to overcome the challenges we face as a society, thereby building a prosperous future for our nation. May the forces of heaven be with us.”
