Maduro seeks to legitimize fraud with call for national dialogue

Nicolás Maduro ends campaign with rumors and violent messages

CARACAS.- Nicolás Maduro, after being proclaimed the “winner” of the presidential elections by the National Electoral Council, which is close to his regime, said that the transmission system of the Venezuelan electoral system was, according to him, massively hacked by a country that “they have already identified.”

“Venezuela suffered an attack, at night, a ‘massive hack’. We already know which country it came from, a massive attack on the electoral transmission system because the devils did not want the electoral bulletin to be totalized,” said Maduro in the Miraflores gardens, after claiming victory amid a wave of irregularities denounced by the opposition.

“The investigation is in the hands of the prosecutor’s office, to do justice for our people. It was a brutal hack that wanted to prevent the people from having their official results in order to cry fraud,” according to the dictator who, through the CNE at his service, claimed another six years in power.

He added that in addition to the alleged hacking, authorities thwarted a gang that intended to attack and burn down polling stations, despite videos posted on social media showing violence at the hands of colectivos and paramilitaries against opponents. One person was killed.

“Iron fist with the terrorists, with the violent ones, with the guarimberos. We will not allow them to start a spiral of violence,” said Maduro in an attempt to “legitimize” the results that gave the opposition the victory at the exit polls.

Pre-election polls gave a wide lead to opposition candidate Edmundo González.

Seeks to legitimize fraud with call for “dialogue”

The main exponent of Chavismo reiterated that on Monday, July 29, he will sign a new national dialogue agreement.

“Do you want hatred, intolerance and street violence to return? I want love, dialogue and understanding. I have the power that you have given me to promote the great national economic, political and social dialogue,” he said.

Maduro said he will have a political dialogue with all those who do not call for a coup d’état, as long as the decision that “the people made on July 28” is respected. “This has to be a popular political dialogue, where citizens call on political parties, not the other way around.

Maduro called for general elections in the country’s municipal districts for August 25.
