Mail-in ballots begin to be sent to voters in Miami-Dade

MIAMI.– The Miami-Dade Elections Department has begun mailing out approximately 215,000 ballots to voters who applied to participate in the August 20 primary election.

County Supervisor of Elections Christina White noted a decrease in the number of mail-in ballot requests this year compared to 2020.

“For the 2020 primary election, we sent out about 332,000 ballots in the initial mailing, today it’s about 215,000,” White said.

According to the official, new electoral laws are partly responsible for the fact that there are currently around 115,000 fewer requests for postal votes compared to the elections four years ago.

Under recent Florida ballot measures, all applications for mail-in ballots expired on December 31, 2022. Voters who use this form of voting must renew their application for the 2024 election.

Important steps

Voters who have not requested a mail-in ballot have until 5 p.m. on August 8 to do so. There are several ways to request a ballot:

  • Online: Through the Department of Elections website.
  • By phone: 305-499-8444.
  • By mail: 2700 NW 87 Ave., Miami, FL 33172.

To consider

Due to a change in Florida law, all applications to vote by mail expired on December 31, 2022. Voters must renew their application for the 2024 election cycle. Requesting a ballot online takes less than three minutes.

Make sure the ballot is received by the Elections Department by Election Day, August 20, at 7 p.m.

Sign inside the white box on the back of the return envelope. Make sure the signature on the mail-in ballot envelope matches the signature on file.

Return your ballot by mail or drop it off at a secure ballot receiving station located outside of the 23 early voting locations.

No postage (payment for postal service) is required when sending a mail-in ballot to the Department of Elections.
