Marlins beat Rays with Edwards' productive performance

ST. PETERSBURG.- Xavier Edwards drove in three runs, while Jake Burger and Jonah Bride each hit home runs to help Dominican Roddery Muñoz and the Miami Marlins beat the Tampa Bay Rays 6-2 on Wednesday.

Rookie Muñoz earned his first win in nearly three months.

Edwards hit a sacrifice fly and a two-run single for the Marlins, who overcame a pair of one-run deficits to split honors in two games and send Taj Bradley (6-5) to his first loss since June 8.

Muñoz (2-5), a 24-year-old right-hander, was 0-5 in 10 starts dating to May 1, when he beat Colorado for his first major league win. He allowed two runs and four hits in a five-inning stint that included seven strikeouts.

For the Marlins, Dominicans Jesus Sanchez 1-for-4, Vidal Brujan 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Puerto Rican Emmanuel Rivera 0-for-4. Venezuelan Ali Sanchez 0-for-2 with one run scored.

For the Rays, Cuban Yandy Díaz was 1-for-4. Dominican Morel was 1-for-4 with one run scored and one RBI. Panamanian José Caballero was 0-for-4.

Holliday returns in style

Jackson Holliday returned to the majors with a fifth-inning grand slam, his first career homer, and the Baltimore Orioles beat the Toronto Blue Jays 10-4 on Wednesday.

Holliday, the top pick in the 2022 draft and considered the top prospect by MLB Pipeline, was demoted after going 2-for-34 with 18 strikeouts for Baltimore earlier this season. In the game that marked his return, he hit two harmless ground balls before sending the ball 439 feet from the plate with the bases loaded to give the Orioles an 8-3 lead at the time.
