Meta dismissals lead to criticism from game developers

After focusing so directly and uncompromisingly on creating a “metaverse,” it appears that Mark Zuckerberg has finally lost enough billions of dollars in development to partially give up. All indications are that they are now focusing on AI instead, which has resulted in further layoffs in the Reality Labs department.

As GameDeveloper can now report, both Ready at Dawn and Downpour Interactive have suffered and quite a large number of employees have been cut, while Meta has lost many billions on developing its metaverse, plans that have now apparently been scrapped.

This has prompted developers across the industry, including screenwriter Mitch Dyer – who worked for Motive and now Warner Bros Montreal – to write this:

It is not known how the layoffs will affect the studio’s overall games division, but it is clear that completely innocent divisions will be blamed for Zuckerberg’s metaverse dreams.
