Miami Commissioner distributes school backpacks for new school year

MIAMI.- Manolo Reyes, Commissioner of District 4 of Miami, will hand out more than 500 free school backpacks this Monday, May 29 at 2:30 pm at the Boys and Girls Club, located at 2805 SW 32 Ave, Miami, FL 33133.

This is one of many back-to-school events in which a total of 8,000 backpacks are expected to be distributed to different schools, summer camps and community organizations in the city of Miami to help the neediest families, the commissioner’s office said in a press release.

“As a father, grandfather and retired teacher, I understand how important it is for children to start school with a new backpack and supplies,” Reyes said.

“But the ever-rising cost of living makes it increasingly difficult for middle-income families to meet all the demands for the start of school. That is why every year I make sure to work with community partners to help me ensure that our city’s children receive their backpacks with essential school supplies to start the new year,” said Commissioner Reyes, who thanked “our community partners who, like every year, contribute to our effort to bring relief to the families of our community.”

According to the official school calendar, August 15 is the first day of classes for the upcoming 2024-25 academic year.
