Miami-Dade completes testing of voting machines for August 20 Primary

MIAMI.- The Miami-Dade County Elections Department concluded an exhaustive test of its voting machines on Thursday, August 1, in preparation for the August 20 Primary Election.

The Logic and Accuracy Test is the final test before the machines are deployed for voting. Every step of the voting and tabulation process was evaluated: ballots were cast according to a predetermined result, tabulated and reconciled to ensure that votes were counted accurately, said a press release from the Department of Elections.

Supervisor of Elections Christina White said, “This comprehensive test has been completed and the results are as expected. Our equipment is working properly and votes were accurately tabulated. Miami-Dade voters can feel confident that we are ready for the election.”

The Department will begin deploying the machines ahead of early voting, which begins Monday, August 5, and continues through Sunday, August 18. Early voting will be available at 23 locations that will be open eight hours each day. In-person voters are encouraged to take advantage of early voting.

Finally, the release recalls that, under a change in Florida law, all applications for mail-in ballots expired on December 31, 2022. Voters who wish to vote by mail in the 2024 election cycle must renew their application. Requesting a ballot online takes less than three minutes. Voters are encouraged to do so immediately.

It is important for voters to know that this election is for all voters, regardless of party affiliation. Although Florida is a closed primary state, meaning that only voters who are registered members of a political party can vote in their respective party’s primary, there are several nonpartisan offices and polls that all Miami-Dade County voters will be able to vote on, regardless of party affiliation.
