Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch From Mercury is the latest anime series to feature the popular mecha that have been a major part of the anime industry for decades. With the second season bringing back Suletta Mercury, life-size Gundam statue still standing in Japan.
Now how do you explain ComicBookthe so-called “Walking Gundam” has pulled a new hack that is spawning a real life tournament taking place next month.
The Gundam Factory Yokohama first opened its doors in 2020, giving fans the chance to see a life-size Gundam statue that has the ability to walk under its own power. While the robot won’t be rocketing off into outer space anytime soon, the statue now has the ability to play “Rock Paper Scissors” against patrons visiting its location in Japan.
At present, there has been no news of the Gundam statues making their way to North America, though Netflix is continuing to work on a live-action adaptation movie that will give us a new take on the series. Right now, it’s hard to deny the impact the Gundam franchise has had on the world of anime.

Tournament with the Gundam
A “Rock Paper Scissors Tournament” will take place on May 5th where sponsors will have the opportunity to try and defeat the real life robot for an exceptional prize. If someone manages to defeat the Gundam, they will be able to take a photo of themselves in an area that is normally restricted to the general public.
While the statue’s creators haven’t mentioned if this event will be broadcast live, many Gundam fans will love watching this unique tournament.
