Notepad for Windows 11 gained tabs (tabs) in an update recently released by Microsoft on the Windows Insider developer channel. The feature was released in Windows 11 Test Build 23281.

Dave Grochoki, “Principal Product Manager Lead” at Microsoft, says that with the new update the company is “introducing support for multiple tabs – a much-requested feature from the community – where you can create, manage and organize multiple files in a single window from Notepad.”

It is now possible to use tabs (tabs) in Notepad for Windows 11.

In the new version of Notepad for Windows 11, it is possible to configure whether the application will open a new tab for each file opened or a new window with nothing will be opened by default. Also, you can work with files in multiple windows by dragging a tab out of the window that has multiple tabs open. According to Dave, “There are also new keyboard shortcut keys to support tab management, as well as some improvements to managing unsaved files, such as automatically generating tab filename/title based on content and an indicator updated from unsaved changes.”
