Proposed law would inform gambling users

Proposed law would inform gambling users

New legislation seeks to ensure that sports betting made via smartphones includes warnings about addiction to this type of gambling.

The measure seeks to strengthen advertising requirements by updating state law to include mobile sports betting, ensuring that information reaches users of these relatively new services.

The bill specifically focuses on ensuring that the Office of Addiction Services and Support’s hotline for problem gambling is included in all ads on the platforms.

In addition, the State Gaming Commission shall provide resources to licensed corporations on how to present information related to gambling problems to the public.

In response, a spokesperson for the Sports Betting Alliance, which represents companies like FanDuel and DraftKings, told us they support the move, and said in a statement that they are committed to responsible gambling practices.
