Reduces the risk of developing long COVID

A new study shows that the risk of developing long-term COVID-19 symptoms has decreased.

Researchers examined millions of medical records from the Department of Veterans Affairs.

During the first wave of COVID-19, ten percent of people who were infected developed long COVID. Vaccines helped cut that risk in half when the delta variant arrived, and then it dropped to three and a half percent of those vaccinated with the arrival of Omicron in late 2021.

Unvaccinated people double their risk of developing long-term COVID symptoms.

According to the study, about seven percent of adults, or about 18 million people, have had long COVID at some point.
