Sevilla strikes down United and is in the UEL semis

Sevilla’s idyll with the Europa League has no end.

In a disastrous season in Spanish football, the Andalusian team can always smile in the second most important tournament on the continent, one that they have won six times.

Sevilla beat Manchester United 3-0 on Thursday to reach the semifinals.

After United had beaten two other Spanish clubs, Barcelona and Betis, by the wayside in the knockout phase, the third in the Premier League crashed out against the 13th in La Liga — one that changed managers twice in the season.

With the aggregate score tied 2-2 after the first leg at Old Trafford last week, striker Youssef En-Nesyri put the hosts ahead just eight minutes into the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán stadium.

Under siege, defender Harry Maguire lost a ball on the edge of the area and the Moroccan international did not forgive, finishing with a low left foot that beat goalkeeper David de Gea.

Full-back Loic Bade scored the second with a header just after the break and En-Nesyri made it 3-0 late on with his second goal of the night after De Gea’s blundering clearance attempt.

The sevillistas also eliminated United in the semifinals of the Europa League in 2020.

In the semifinals, Sevilla will meet Juventus. The Italian giant advanced after drawing a 1-1 draw at Sporting Lisbon, winning 2-1 on aggregate.
