South Florida is under a heat advisory through Sunday

With wind chill levels topping 100 degrees, the National Weather Service in Miami decided to place South Florida under a heat advisory through 8 p.m. Sunday.

The advisory area includes Miami-Dade, Broward, Davie, Collier, Glades and Palm Beach counties.

Highs are expected to be in the low/mid 90s range, but due to the “urban heat island” effect, wind chills can be much higher.

According to the SMN, the urban islands effect occurs when air temperatures in urban areas are higher compared to rural areas or wooded areas.
