Staudenhof dispute: Association of Architects demands preservation of the Potsdam block of flats

The debate about the renovation or demolition of the Staudenhof block of flats continues. The Association of Architects (BDA) Brandenburg once again positioned itself against the demolition in a statement from the weekend. The available profitability comparisons between the two variants are one-sided and incomplete. There must be new ones here, according to a BDA requirement.

The conversion of the former restaurant “Minsk” into an art museum already shows: “The preservation and development of a building from the 1970s is not only possible and sensible – it is also important for the city society, with all the associated controversial discussions”.

Such a transformation of the Staudenhof was always blocked and never properly examined. This omission must be made up for, according to BDA country head Philipp Jamme. On Wednesday, the city councilors are expected to make a final decision on the Staudenhof. Despite widespread criticism – also from climate protectionists and scientists from the field – the signs point to demolition.
