That’s why you had to wait a long time for Atomic Heart – About big ambitions and trade-offs

In 2018, Bioshock fans took notice when Atomic Heart was announced. The shooter will be released on February 21, 2023 for PlayStation, Xbox and PC – later than originally planned. Developer Mundfish now explains why it took so long.

Wanted too much

Across from Wccftech Director Robert Bagratuni explained that four things were to blame for the delay. These are “Youth, Ambition, Innovation and New Technology”. In order to create something extraordinary and unique for the players, the studio took on something. The ambitions just got too big and in the end demanded one or two victims.

“We made the difficult decision to abandon some ideas, even very big ones, like multiplayer. It was painful to have to make such decisions, but it was the right decision,” said Bagratuni. Mundfish will not introduce multiplayer later either.

“You don’t have to follow every trend when creating something new and innovative. Our big ambitions didn’t always match reality, it was a hard realization and we had to adapt. I think all studios go through this process at least once .”

Instead of reintroducing lost content in the planned DLC, it aims to offer players new areas, quests, puzzles, enemies and stories. “We plan to significantly expand both the open-world areas and new complexes and laboratories where the player will learn more about the world of Atomic Heart and face new challenges.”
